Celebrating Davis Elementary’s New Schoolyard
June 21, 2018
We were thrilled to celebrate the opening of the new Space to Grow schoolyard at Nathan Davis Elementary in Brighton Park on June 19. All of the Space to Grow partners had a great time celebrating with the school and the entire community, enjoying wonderful performances from the Nathan Davis cheerleading squad and from Brighton Park Neighborhood Council members. What a great way to kick off summer vacation! Davis Principal Rocio Rosales-Gaskin, Claire Marcy and Guillermo Gomez from Healthy Schools Campaign, and Jerry Adelmann from Openlands introduced honored guests who addressed the school community:
- Mariyana Spyropoulos, President of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago
- Randy Conner, Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Water Management
- Alderman George Cardenas
- Dr. Elizabeth Alvarez, Chief of Schools for Network 8
Also in attendance were MWRD Commissioners Kari Steele, David Walsh, Debra Shore and Ken Dunkin as well as hundreds of students and their families and neighbors. Congratulations to the Davis community! You can see photos from this great event in our gallery section.
