Orozco Academy
1940 W. 18th St, Lower West Side neighborhood
Orozco Fine Arts & Sciences Elementary School’s Space to Grow transformation includes a turf field, outdoor classroom area, and gardens of all kinds: a rain garden with native plants, native gardens and trees and vegetable gardens.
Orozco’s schoolyard is working hard to manage stormwater, including a new parking lot with permeable pavers, and use of a special water feature that captures water from the school’s roof and uses it to water a rain garden that is also used as an outdoor classroom.
